GHOST AT AN OPEN MIC

She taps on the mic, whispers
is this thing on?  Taps on her 
chest. Is this thing on?

She is not afraid of dying in this room.

The host says, don't go overtime
as if time still held sway for this apparition.
As if she wasn't the definition of timeless.

She is afraid that her metaphors
are see-through. Translucent.
That her word choice is not solid.

All we know is how ethereal she sounds.
How these words will cling to us
and leave an indelible mark.

I feel so at home here, she says.
and thanks us, as if we didn't gather
hoping she would be here;
hoping we would be so gently
haunted.
